The Chesapeake Conjure Society began in 2017 as a series of events and local education initiatives throughout Maryland. After years of fostering connections and hosting recurring events, the collective formalized in 2020 under the name Chesapeake Conjure Society.

Founded in Baltimore City, where it remains headquartered today, Chesapeake Conjure Society (CCS) is the first publicly overt Hoodoo society of its kind. While rooted in Baltimore, the work reaches the general Chesapeake area, and the influence of CCS has expanded to an international reach, inspiring the formation of Hoodoo societies across the nation.
