How we operate
Joining the Chesapeake Conjure Society requires in-person participation. The Hoodoo Society is deeply rooted in place-based traditions, and while we occasionally host online events, full membership can only be pursued by attending our in-person gatherings. We value witnessing each other's learning processes, community engagement, and interaction with the land—key elements that cannot be replicated online.
If you are interested in learning more about Hoodoo at your own pace, please check out our resources page.
To explore membership, attend our events and take the time to experience, learn, and allow the traditions to settle within you. Take your time. After participating, if you feel aligned with our practices and would like to formally join the group, a conversation can take place to discuss further involvement. The journey into the Hoodoo Society is based on shared experiences, personal readiness, patience, and a genuine understanding of our values and practices.
The Chesapeake Conjure Society is comprised of working people. We hold full-time jobs outside of our spiritual practice and fund CCS from our own pockets. Therefore, our activities are designed to be sustainable, balancing our spiritual commitments with our daily, mundane responsibilities. We operate within an active season, running from the spring equinox to mid-November. Two annual events are central to our calendar: one on Juneteenth at the Baltimore Harbor, and All Saints Day at Mount Auburn Cemetery. These are consistent, but other events may vary.
We believe in living traditions that require sensory engagement and meaningful participation. Spiritual inquiries and requests for help are often directed to us, and while we can provide direction to relevant resources, such as a white bath for anxiety or questions to ask when looking for a diviner, we do not offer direct services as an organization. Some members do offer individual services outside of CCS, but as a group our primary focus is on communal engagement.
Keep an eye on our social media platforms and website for announcements regarding upcoming events.
